GRYNFELLT HERNIA [september 2006]

INFORMATION

The Grynfeltt hernia protrudes through the space of Grynfeltt-Lesshaft that is bounded superiorly by the twelfth rib, the posterior lumbocostal ligament and the inferior serratus posterior muscle.

In the video, one can appreciate its appearance, in this case bilateral, in the convex of both lumbar fossae by the protrusion of intestinal content through the weakened space between the muscular planes. A demonstration of the character of the hernia comes from manual reduction of the two masses and its reappearance posteriorly and increase in volume with a Valsalva maneuver.

Although they are rare, it is advisable to know them to avoid patient discomfort from unnecessary investigations.

If its size is very large and causes discomfort, or strangulation of the hernia occurs, the treatment is then surgical.
