| The patient,
a 57 year old woman, with this x-ray consulted
for palpitations and dyspnoea on mild exertion
that had developed insidiously and progressed
through the preceding month.
The blood analysis demonstrated a severe microcytic
anemia: Hb 5.6 g/dL; with MCV 56%. The iron studies
profile was as follows: Iron 21 mg/dL; Transferrin
389 mg/dL and ferritin 5mcg/mL.
The chest x-ray with the clinical symptomology
gives the key to the etiology of the anemia in
this patient.
